The first official newborn session in the Cooley Collective Newborn Studio by Two Color Photography
42 years after Cooley Memorial Hospital closed its doors we welcomed a newborn back into the labor and delivery room for the first time! Because this sweet little newborn was my niece made this moment even more fulfilling! So I think Dr. Cooley would be thrilled to see a newborn studio in his hospital.
So now all the work we have put into this studio was worth when I held my beautiful new niece inside this room that means so much to me.
Everly is such a blessing in our life. Everly’s birth mom chose my brother and his adorable wife to be the parents of her baby. She chose my beautiful niece to be her big sister!
Adjustments
There were adjustments in how I photographed sessions in the new studio. The newborn studio at Cooley is more square than my home studio so storage of all the props is a challenge. We fixed that by cleaning out the office adjacent to the newborn studio and now props can be stored close by.
My home studio didn’t have a row of beautiful windows like the Cooley studio has so we had to put up black-out curtains to avoid light leakage. This is an occurrence that you will only have to worry about if you are a photographer that uses strobes or continuous lights. If you shoot using natural light, this room is amazing!
The wall we now use for backdrops is large enough to hold 2 backdrops at a time. The backdrop wall is directly across from the wall of windows. You can use the curtains to direct light the way you need.
Benefits of the Newborn Studio
There are many benefits of newborn studio right inside the Cooley Studios.
- When available you can add-on 15 minutes of time in the white studio. The add-on is an additional charge.
- Posed and lifestyle shots in the same session.
- The studio is perfect for natural light or artificial light sessions.
Letting a toddler snuggle into mom’s lap makes such a difference when trying to ease nerves. So having furniture options in the white studio was perfect! There is so much beauty in capturing genuine, candid reactions of a family interacting with their new addition!
